LIDAR Operating Software for Precise Measurements

Case ID:
UA19-064
Invention:

This product is a Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) attachment for any compatible drone that will have the ability to make 3-dimensional maps at a high resolution. It is a very low-cost product compared to others on the market. The data points are given in LAS format and are passed through an algorithm using a ground-up perspective to analyze the objects with high accuracy.

Background:

Resolution requirements make it quite challenging for drones to maintain the flight duration needed to create a high-resolution map. Edge of the LIDAR path has less dense point data than at the center. LIDAR is incapable of acquiring points between defined steps on a 360-degree sweep. No ideal model has been created to account for these issues. The LIDAR technologies that exist today are highly expensive and this invention aims at creating a very affordable, high functioning product that has never been created before.

Applications:

  • Drones
  • Automotive
  • Agriculture

Advantages:

  • Low cost
  • High range capability
  • High angular resolution
